Temperature at School
A child with a temperature of 100.4 or above will be sent home and should not return to school until their temperature is normal for 24 hours without Tylenol or other fever reducing medications.
Lake County District doesn't give aspirin or Tylenol for an elevated temperature unless ordered by a doctor.
If a temperature is 103.8 or above and the parent cannot be reached then the school will call 911 (at your expense) for medical attention for your child.
Prescription/Non-Prescription Medicine ( Fl Statute 1006.062):
Established medication policies are included in the School Board Policy Manual, Pupil Code of Conduct, and the Health Manual located at each school.
The Parent/Guardian must bring all medication to the school and a Lake County Medical Authorization form must be completed. Prescription Medicine Form (MIS 61D001) Non-Prescription Medicine (MIS 61D003)
Medicine should be taken at home unless ordered by doctor to be taken during school hours. All medicine ( prescription and non-prescription) should be in an original container with a current date and clear directions for the time and dosage. The prescription label MUST NOT be modified.
Medical procedures ( i.e. Nebulizer, glucose, Epipen, etc) must have Medical Procedure Form (MIS 52A004) completed by your doctor, written parental consent and training of the staff before any procedure can be performed at school.
If pills must be cut in half, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian and not that of Lake County School personnel. If the child requires a liquid then it is the parent/guardian's responsibility to provide a graduated medication spoon or cup.
Non-Prescription medication may be given for 72 consecutive hours once in a school year with parental authorization. It is not to exceed the recommended dose without a doctor's prescription. If it is required beyond this time then a doctor's written order with parental authorization must be provided.
Non-Prescription medicine must be FDA approved and in the original sealed container.
