The Lake County School Board has officially launched its search for the next Superintendent of Lake County Schools (LCS). The board is seeking an exceptional leader to build on the district’s record of achievement, support student success, and guide the next chapter of excellence for Lake County’s public schools.
The search follows Superintendent Diane Kornegay’s announcement that she will retire at the end of the 2026-27 school year after more than 35 years in public education and a decade of service as superintendent.
She is the longest-serving appointed superintendent in Florida, and she was recognized as Florida’s 2026 Superintendent of the Year by the Florida Association of District School Superintendents.
With guidance from Kornegay, the district earned its first consecutive A ratings from the Florida Department of Education in 2025 and 2026. Graduation rates for district-operated schools have climbed to a record 96 percent, while students continue to benefit from expanded opportunities in Career and Technical Education, college dual enrollment, the International Baccalaureate program, the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) program, and the arts.
The district has launched a web page with details about candidate qualifications and the application process. The page also includes a link where the community can share recommendations and feedback.
